Former Acting CJ of Allahabad High Court, Justice (retd) VK Shukla, Passes Away at 69

Former acting Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Justice (retd) Vimlesh Kumar Shukla, passed away on Saturday in New Delhi at the age of 69 after suffering a brain stroke a few days prior.

Justice Shukla, a respected figure in the legal community, had a medical emergency while returning from the Supreme Court earlier in the week. He was promptly admitted to a private hospital where he tragically succumbed to his condition on Saturday.

His funeral is scheduled for Sunday, June 30, at 8:30 AM at Rasoolabad Ghat in Prayagraj, where the legal community and family will gather to pay their last respects.

Justice Shukla’s career in law began after he completed his BA and LLB degrees from Allahabad University. He enrolled as a lawyer in 1981 with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh and soon made a name for himself practicing civil and constitutional law at the High Court of Allahabad.

His profound knowledge and dedication led to his elevation as a judge of the Allahabad High Court on December 21, 2002. Justice Shukla retired on June 2, 2017, leaving behind a legacy of judicial prudence and mentorship that shaped many legal careers.

Following his retirement, he continued his law practice at the Supreme Court and was honored as a senior advocate by the apex court, a testament to his expertise and stature in the legal community.

Justice Shukla also served as secretary of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA).
