A shocking incident has been reported from the capital’s Tis Hazari Court, where a 21-year-old woman has accused a lawyer of raping her in his chamber. The Delhi Police confirmed the allegations on Thursday, revealing that a formal complaint has been lodged against the accused.
According to the woman’s statement to the police, she was called to the lawyer’s office on July 27 under the guise of a job opportunity. The victim also claimed that after the assault, the lawyer threatened her with severe consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Before sending her away, he allegedly gave her Rs 1,500.
After the ordeal, the traumatized woman returned home and confided in her aunt, who immediately helped her report the incident to the police. Authorities have since initiated a formal investigation into the allegations, with a case registered at the Sabji Mandi Police Station.
The legal community has been stunned by the allegations, sparking discussions on safety and ethics within the premises of one of the city’s busiest courts. The Delhi Police have assured a thorough investigation, emphasizing that all necessary actions will be taken to bring justice to the victim.
