The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued summons to two women lawyers in a defamation suit initiated by journalist Omar Rashid over allegations of sexual harassment posted on social media platforms.
Justice Sachin Datta issued formal notices on the journalist’s lawsuit as well as on an accompanying interim application seeking an injunction. The court has scheduled the matter for its next hearing on September 24.
The legal action stems from anonymous online posts published by the two women, who accused Rashid of grave misconduct, including sexual violence and force-feeding beef.
The social media accusations had previously triggered a case against the journalist before the National Human Rights Commission. That inquiry was subsequently closed after police authorities determined that there were no grounds to proceed with an investigation.
