The Delhi High Court has scheduled a hearing for March 6 on the appeal filed by expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Sengar, who is contesting his 10-year imprisonment in the custodial death case of the Unnao rape survivor’s father. Justice Vikas Mahajan agreed to the adjournment requested by the CBI counsel, a move that was not opposed by Sengar’s defense team.
Sengar, whose legal battles have kept him in the headlines, was previously convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl in 2017. The case gained national attention due to the heinous nature of the crime and the subsequent death of the rape survivor’s father under suspicious circumstances while in police custody.
In addition to his life sentence for rape, Sengar received a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence on March 13, 2020, for his involvement in the death of the girl’s father. The trial court, emphasizing the severity of the crime, noted Sengar’s role in the victim’s arrest under the Arms Act and his subsequent death due to police brutality, labeling him as the family’s “sole bread earner.”

Sengar’s legal team is reportedly preparing a detailed note for the upcoming hearing that will not only seek to suspend his sentence but also challenge the trial court’s decisions in both the rape and custodial death cases.
