Delhi High Court Restrains Patanjali from Publishing Disparaging Ads Against Dabur Chyawanprash

The Delhi High Court has issued an interim injunction restraining Patanjali Ayurved from airing or publishing advertisements that allegedly disparage Dabur Chyawanprash or make misleading claims about other similar products in the market.

Justice Mini Pushkarna passed the order on Thursday while hearing a petition filed by Dabur India Ltd, which accused Patanjali of launching a disparaging advertising campaign to promote its product “Patanjali Special Chyawanprash.” According to the plea, the advertisements suggest that no other manufacturer, including Dabur, possesses the knowledge to make authentic Chyawanprash — an assertion the court found concerning at the prima facie stage.

Dabur, represented by advocates Jawahar Lala and Meghna Kumar, argued that the commercials falsely claimed that other Chyawanprash brands were “ordinary” and lacked understanding of Ayurvedic principles. The plea contended that these statements amounted to generic disparagement and undermined consumer trust.

The court agreed that the nature of the statements could be considered false and misleading, particularly in the context of an Ayurvedic health product. The matter has been listed for further hearing on July 14.
