The Delhi High Court on Friday extended the interim bail of Jaideep Sengar, brother of the expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Sengar, till March 11, on medical grounds. Jaideep is undergoing treatment for mouth cancer. This decision comes amid the ongoing legal proceedings concerning the alleged murder of the Unnao rape survivor’s father while in custody.
Justice Vikas Mahajan ordered the extension following the expiry of Jaideep’s current bail on February 18. The court has issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and requested a status report by the next hearing.
The legal counsel for Jaideep Sengar has also requested the suspension of his 10-year jail term pending a final decision on his appeal against the trial court’s judgment. The trial court had sentenced him and his brother Kuldeep to rigorous imprisonment over the death of the Unnao rape survivor’s father, who died in custody in April 2018 due to alleged police brutality. The father was arrested under the Arms Act, purportedly at the behest of the accused.

The case has drawn significant attention due to its connections with Kuldeep Sengar, who was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on December 20, 2019, for the rape of a minor girl in 2017. The trial court, in its 2020 judgment regarding the father’s death, emphasized that “no leniency” could be shown toward the accused for the killing of a family’s “sole bread earner”.
