In a significant move, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday demanded responses from the Delhi government and Lieutenant Governor regarding a plea filed by BJP MLA(s) calling for a special legislative assembly sitting to discuss the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports. Presided over by Justice Sanjeev Narula, the court’s inquiry stems from the petitioners’ demand for immediate tabling of 14 pivotal CAG reports that scrutinize the Delhi administration’s financial practices.
The petition highlights a request for the assembly speaker to convene a special session, deemed a constitutional obligation, to ensure transparency and accountability in governance by discussing these reports. Amidst these proceedings, the Delhi government’s counsel revealed that the pertinent files had been transferred from Chief Minister Atishi’s office to the Delhi secretariat earlier that day.
Notices were duly issued to several high-ranking officials, including the Chief Minister, the Lieutenant Governor, the office of the assembly speaker, and the CAG office, marking a critical step towards addressing the plea’s demands.
