Delhi High Court Allows Actor Rajpal Yadav to Travel to Australia for Film Promotion

The Delhi High Court has granted permission to actor Rajpal Yadav to travel to Melbourne, Australia, from June 27 to July 5 for promoting his upcoming film Mera Kale Rang Da Yaar, while imposing certain conditions to ensure compliance with ongoing legal proceedings.

Justice Rajneesh Kumar Gupta passed the order on June 23 after reviewing the invitation letter and travel documents submitted by Yadav. The court noted that the actor had previously been permitted to travel abroad by the trial court and had complied with the terms laid down.

As a precaution, the High Court directed Yadav to furnish a security of ₹1 lakh in the form of a fixed deposit receipt (FDR). He has also been asked to keep his mobile phone functional at all times during the trip and provide any additional contact details to the investigating officer.

“The passport of the applicant lying deposited with the trial court is directed to be released on the condition that the passport shall be deposited back once he is back in India,” the court stated. The matter has been listed for further hearing on July 8.

In June 2023, the High Court had temporarily suspended Yadav’s conviction in a cheque bounce case, on the condition that he would take “sincere and genuine measures” to explore a possible settlement with the complainant. At the time, Yadav’s counsel submitted that the case stemmed from a genuine financial transaction related to a film project that failed commercially, leading to substantial losses.

The actor has already served around three months of imprisonment in related civil execution proceedings, and the court had noted that the petitioners, including Yadav, were “not hardened criminals.”

The matter is currently pending before the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre.
