The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has strongly criticised a recent notification issued by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) that permits police personnel to present their evidence virtually from video conferencing rooms inside police stations.
In a resolution passed by its executive committee, the DHCBA termed the move as “contrary to the principles of fair trial” and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the order.
“The executive committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association is of the firm view that the notification ought to be withdrawn as it is against the basic tenets of justice and principles of fair trial. Its implementation will jeopardise the trial process and adversely impact the outcome of such trials,” the association said.

The notification, issued on August 13, designates video conferencing facilities in police stations as official places from where police officials may depose before the courts.
Bar members fear that such a mechanism could undermine the sanctity of court proceedings, create an imbalance in the trial process, and raise concerns over undue influence on the testimony of police personnel.
The association emphasised that physical deposition in court remains an integral aspect of ensuring transparency, accountability, and credibility in the justice system.
