A crucial decision is expected on March 5, when a Delhi court will announce its verdict on Congress MP Karti Chidambaram’s plea to stay proceedings in the alleged Chinese visa scam case. The case implicates him and several others in accusations related to money laundering.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja concluded the hearing and reserved the order this Saturday, following detailed arguments regarding Karti’s application. The plea challenges the continuation of the proceedings on the grounds of lacking proper sanction from the concerned authorities.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had initiated the money laundering case, taking cues from a prior FIR filed by the CBI. The allegations involve the improper issuance of visas to 263 Chinese nationals in 2011, during the tenure of Karti’s father, P Chidambaram, as the Home Minister.
