In a shocking incident outside the Ara Civil Court, an elderly man, appearing for a hearing, was shot dead by armed criminals in broad daylight. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting. The victim, critically injured, was rushed to Ara Sadar Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Gopal Chaudhary, 62, a resident of Belaur village in the Udavantnagar police station area and son of the late Degree Chaudhary. The incident occurred near Ramna Maidan in front of the Ara Civil Court, causing panic and chaos in the vicinity.
Following the incident, a large contingent of police force arrived at the scene, and the investigation is underway. The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bhojpur also reached the site promptly. Gopal Chaudhary, the injured elder, was previously named in a murder case and had come to the Civil Court for the hearing date, where the attackers, lying in wait, opened fire on him.

According to reports, Chaudhary was an accused in a 2016 murder case and had come to the court for his hearing to ensure his bail was not revoked. It is said that two criminals approached him amid the crowd and shot him at close range near his ear. However, bystanders quickly transported him to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition, though the bullet has been removed.
The SP indicated that this case stems from a dispute between Bootan Chaudhary and Ranjit Chaudhary. Ranjit’s brother was allegedly murdered in 2016 by Bootan Chaudhary and his associates, with Gopal Chaudhary being one of the accused. The investigation has confirmed the case details, and the initial identification of the accused has been made. Police teams are currently conducting raids to apprehend the culprits. The situation at the crime scene is now under control.
