In an ongoing hearing involving the NEET examination paper leak case, the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Chandrachud, deliberated on over 40 petitions today. This marks the fourth hearing on the matter, with a decision on a possible re-examination anticipated soon.
During the session, the National Testing Agency (NTA) acknowledged that over 3,300 students were mistakenly given the wrong examination paper. Instead of the intended SBI paper, these students received a paper meant for Canara Bank.
Chief Justice Chandrachud highlighted the complexity of determining the extent of the paper leak, noting that the evidence presented so far does not clarify how widespread the breach was across the country. The conflicting statements from various suspects suggest that the leakage likely took place on the night of May 4, before the papers were transported, indicating a security breach in the strong room vault rather than during transportation.
Presenting for the petitioners were senior advocates Narendra Hooda, Sanjay Hegde, and Mathews Nedumpara. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta represented the NTA and the central government, laying out their positions in this significant legal scrutiny of the examination’s integrity.
