Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha Reviews Preparations for May 10 National Lok Adalat; Over 34 Lakh Cases Identified for Possible Settlement in Chhattisgarh

Bilaspur, May 9, 2025: To review the preparations for the upcoming National Lok Adalat on 10th May, 2025, Hon’ble Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice, High Court of Chhattisgarh and Patron in Chief, Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority took a virtual meet of all the Principal District Judges/Chairperson, Secretary, DLSAs, Judges of Family Court, Chairman Permanent Lok Adalat, Chief Judicial Magistrates and Judges of Labour Courts.

The said virtual meet was co-chaired by Hon’ble Shri Justice Sanjay K. Agrawal, Executive Chairman, Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority and Hon’ble Shri Justice Parth Prateem Sahu, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee, Bilaspur.

Addressing the Virtual Meeting, Hon’ble The Chief Justice reviewed the progress made regarding identification of cases for the upcoming National Lok Adalat pursuant to the virtual meeting dated 05-05-2025.

Hon’ble The Chief Justice reiterated that all the Judicial Officers should take special efforts for the identification and resolution of maximum numbers of Old Pending Civil and Criminal compoundable cases, while specially focusing upon cases concerning Women, Senior Citizens, Cases under Negotiable Instruments Act and Motor Accident Claims.

Hon’ble The Chief Justice further appealed to the Judicial Officers to encourage the litigants for settlement of their disputes under pre-litigation and pending cases in the upcoming National Lok Adalat as an effective and efficient alternative.

It is pertinent to mention that as per the instructions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, as per the calendar set for the year 2025, National Lok Adalat is being organized on 10th May, 2025 across all Courts being High Court, District Courts, Tehsil Courts, Family Courts, Forum and Tribunal including all Revenue Courts, wherein civil and criminal compoundable cases and other matters are taken up for resolution of disputes.

Further disputes regarding Public Utility Services would also be taken up during such National Lok Adalat through Mohalla Lok Adalat.

As per the information received from the Districts as of 09th May 2025, a total of 3485042 cases have been identified including 3393125 pre-litigation cases and 91917 pending in the courts, for which possibilities of compromise are being tried between the parties.
