Chhattisgarh HC Chief Justice Reviews Preparations for National Lok Adalat on March 8 in Virtual Meeting with Judicial Officers

Bilaspur, March 4, 2025: To review the preparations for the upcoming National Lok Adalat on 8th March, 2025, Hon’ble Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice, High Court of Chhattisgarh and Patron-in-Chief, Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority, took a virtual meet of all the Principal District Judges/Chairman, Secretary, DLSAs, Judges of Family Court, Chairman Permanent Lok Adalat, Chief Judicial Magistrates, and Judges of Labour Court.

The said virtual meet was co-chaired by Hon’ble Shri Justice Sanjay K. Agrawal, Executive Chairman, Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority, and Hon’ble Shri Justice Naresh Kumar Chandravanshi, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee.

Addressing the Virtual Meeting, Hon’ble The Chief Justice asked all the Judicial Officers to ensure that special efforts should be made for the identification and resolution of maximum numbers of old pending Civil and Criminal compoundable cases, while specially focusing upon cases concerning Women, Senior Citizens, cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, and Motor Accident Claims.

Hon’ble The Chief Justice further appealed to the Judicial Officers to encourage litigants for settlement of their disputes under pre-litigation in the upcoming National Lok Adalat as an effective and efficient alternative.

Hon’ble The Chief Justice, while addressing the said meeting, asked all Judicial Officers within the State to ensure that efforts should be made for pre-sitting with the litigants and the identification of cases on a higher side, particularly regarding matters of Negotiable Instruments and Motor Accident Claims, where stakeholders such as Insurance and Finance Companies can be persuaded for maximum coordination and settlement of disputes.

It is pertinent to mention that as per the instructions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, and the calendar set for the year 2025, National Lok Adalat is being organized on 08th March, 2025 across all Courts, including:

  • High Court
  • District Courts
  • Tehsil Courts
  • Family Courts
  • Forum and Tribunal
  • All Revenue Courts

During the National Lok Adalat, civil and criminal compoundable cases and other matters will be taken up for resolution of disputes. Additionally, disputes regarding Public Utility Services will also be addressed through Mohalla Lok Adalat.

As per the information received from the Districts as of 03rd March 2025, a total of 12,12,685 cases have been identified, including:

  • 11,45,874 pre-litigation cases
  • 66,811 pending cases in the courts

For these cases, possibilities of compromise are being actively pursued between the parties.
