In a significant development from Kolkata, the Calcutta High Court granted interim bail to Sujay Krishna Bhadra, an accused in the notorious school jobs scam in West Bengal, which is under the scrutiny of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision was made on Tuesday, citing medical grounds after evaluating health reports from two hospitals where Bhadra had been treated.
Presiding over the matter, a division bench consisting of Justice Arijit Banerjee and Justice Apurba Sinha Ray emphasized the necessity for Bhadra to receive continuous medical attention. The court stipulated his release on a bond of Rs 10,000, backed by two sureties of the same amount.
Under the conditions of the interim bail, Bhadra is mandated to reside at his Behala residence in southwest Kolkata. He is allowed to leave his house solely for attending court sessions or for medical visits to clinics and hospitals. Additionally, Bhadra is required to present himself at the Behala police station weekly, adhering strictly to the bail conditions laid out by the court.

This bail comes after Bhadra’s prior arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning the financial aspects of the same scam, from which he was also granted bail by the Calcutta High Court last December. Recently, both the CBI and ED have taken further steps in their investigations, including the recording of Bhadra’s voice sample, indicating ongoing and thorough probe activities linked to the scam.
