Calcutta High Court Grants Bail to Sujay Krishna Bhadra in School Job Scam

The Calcutta High Court, presided over by a single-judge bench, granted bail to Sujay Krishna Bhadra, the primary suspect in the notorious cash-for-school job scam in West Bengal. This case, brought by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has also drawn the attention of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is conducting a parallel investigation.

Justice Ghosh, overseeing the case, imposed stringent conditions upon granting bail to Bhadra. The accused is prohibited from tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses in any manner related to the ongoing investigations. Additionally, Bhadra is required to surrender his passport to the authorities and is restricted from leaving West Bengal without the court’s explicit permission.

Bhadra’s legal journey has been complex, marked by his arrest last year by the ED and subsequent detention at the Presidency Central Correctional Home in South Kolkata. His health issues have added another layer of difficulty, influencing recent legal proceedings. The CBI recently attempted to have Bhadra officially recognized as arrested in the related school job scam during a session at a special court in Kolkata. However, the motion was stalled as the judge noted that Bhadra needed to be physically present to be formally arrested, a requirement unmet due to his reported medical unsuitability for court appearances.
