In a major development the Supreme Court has refused to grant bail to Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in Excise Scam
The bench of CJI Chandrachud and Justice PS Narsimha observed that Sisodia has alternative remedy to approach High Court.
On Tuesday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia applied to the Supreme Court for bail in the liquor policy case. The court initially stated that the arrested AAP leader has the right under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to apply to the Delhi High Court for bail and to have the FIR dismissed.
However, Mr Sisodia’s lawyer, Abhishek Singhvi, stated that they approached the Supreme Court because of the Supreme Court’s decision in the Vinod Dua case. Following that, Chief Justice Chandrachud stated that the case would be heard that evening.
The CBI arrested Mr Sisodia on Sunday evening in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-cancelled liquor policy for 2021-22.
