Bomb Threat at Gauhati High Court Triggers Security Sweep, Court Functioning Unaffected

The Gauhati High Court was the target of a bomb threat on Tuesday morning, prompting a swift response from the police and triggering an extensive search operation across the court premises.

According to officials, the threat came via email, allegedly sent by an unidentified organisation calling itself ‘Madras Tigers’. The message warned of a bomb blast at the high court building, raising concerns about the security of the court and its occupants.

“We have immediately rushed a team to the high court after getting the threat message. Our experts are checking every corner of the premises, and nothing has been found so far. We believe it is a hoax,” a senior police officer told reporters. He added that the full details would emerge only after the search operation is completed.

A senior official of the high court confirmed receipt of the email and stated that the police were thoroughly scanning the building with specialised equipment. “Police have come and they are carrying out a search operation. They have brought different equipment to sanitise the building,” he said.

Despite the threat, the functioning of the court remained uninterrupted. “The threat has not hampered the functioning of the court, and judges are hearing cases as scheduled,” the official added.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity or origin of the sender. The police are likely to initiate a cyber investigation to trace the source of the email.
