Ballia Court Sentences Three to Seven Years in College Violence Case

A local court in Ballia delivered its verdict on Tuesday in a decade-old case of college violence, convicting three individuals for their roles in a violent attack that occurred in 2013 at Satish Chandra Mahavidyalaya. The court sentenced each of the three convicted to seven years of imprisonment.

The incident, which dates back to January 15, 2013, involved an attack on two students, Avinash Singh and Vivek Singh, who were assaulted with knives and other weapons while submitting forms at the college counter. Ashutosh Kumar Pandey, the then president of the students’ union at Satish Chandra Mahavidyalaya and the complainant in the case, was also injured while attempting to intervene.

Government counsel P N Swami reported that a complaint was initially filed against Sudhir Ojha, Pankaj Kumar Rai, Ganesh Upadhyay, and Shashi Kant Yadav under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Following a thorough investigation, the police chargesheeted all four accused.

In the proceedings led by Additional District Judge Gyan Prakash Tiwari, arguments were heard, and the court found Sudhir Ojha, Ganesh Upadhyay, and Shashi Kant Yadav guilty, imposing a sentence of seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 11,500 on each. However, Pankaj Kumar Rai was acquitted of all charges.
