Allahabad High Court Seeks Bar Associations’ Opinion on Declaring 12 Saturdays as Working Days in 2025

The Registrar General of the Allahabad High Court has sought the views of key Bar Associations regarding a proposal to designate 12 non-court Saturdays in the year 2025 as regular court working days. The move aims to expedite the disposal of old pending cases.

In a communication dated May 14, 2025, addressed to the President/Secretary of the High Court Bar Association, Advocates’ Association (Allahabad), and the Oudh Bar Association (Lucknow Bench), the court has cited Paragraph 49(ii) of the Policy and Action Plan of the National Court Management System (NCMS)–2024. The said paragraph recommends:

“One Saturday of every month may be assigned for hearing of cases more than 5 years old. If any High Court remains closed on all Saturdays of the month but the pendency is huge, the calendar for 2025 ought to be so settled to factor in at least 12 working Saturdays in a year.”

In view of this recommendation, the Registrar General has requested all three Bar Associations to submit their views or opinions at the earliest so that the matter may be placed before the Hon’ble Full Court for further consideration.

A handwritten note at the bottom of the letter also instructs the Bar to “put up on Notice Board, inviting opinions of the learned members.”
