In a remarkable decision, the Allahabad High Court has mandated a three-month training period for Amit Verma, the Additional District Judge of Kanpur Nagar, citing his repeated failures in judgment writing. The ruling came from Justice Neeraj Tiwari in response to a petition by Munni Devi concerning a tenancy dispute.
Munni Devi’s plea, which sought to include additional grounds in her case, was previously dismissed by Judge Verma with merely a three-line order, sparking criticism regarding the depth and rationale of his judgments. The petitioner challenged the dismissal, arguing that Judge Verma did not sufficiently consider her application and failed to provide any substantive reasoning for his decision.
Upon review, Justice Tiwari concurred with the petitioner’s concerns, noting that Judge Verma’s order lacked any analytical depth, indicating a significant gap in his competency in judgment writing. The court found that this was not an isolated incident but part of a troubling pattern with Judge Verma.

As a corrective measure, the court has ordered that Judge Verma undergo intensive training at the Judicial Training and Research Institute in Lucknow. This directive aims to enhance his legal reasoning and judgment drafting skills to meet the standards expected of his position.
