The Allahabad High Court issued a stay on the arrest of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mohd Mohsin Khan on Thursday, in connection with a sexual harassment case brought against him by a PhD scholar at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. The scholar accused Khan of exploiting her under the false promise of marriage and concealing his marital status.
The division bench, consisting of Justice Arvind Kumar Sangwan and Justice Mohd Azahar Husain Idrisi, directed the state government to respond to the allegations before the next hearing. The complaint, lodged at the Kalyanpur police station on December 12, details how Khan, who is also pursuing a PhD in criminology at IIT Kanpur, allegedly initiated an intimate relationship with the victim under the pretense of future marriage.
The victim, who is studying cybercrime—a field also pursued by Khan—claimed their relationship began during their academic interactions. Her complaint further alleges that Khan, who was enrolled in cybercrime and criminology studies since July, deliberately withheld information about his existing marriage. The situation escalated when the victim discovered Khan was already married, despite his assurances of obtaining a divorce.
