The Allahabad High Court has denied bail to Abbas Ansari, Uttar Pradesh MLA from Mau constituency, in connection with a case filed under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986. Ansari and several co-accused are alleged to have formed a gang for financial and other benefits, engaging in activities that created fear and terror in the Chitrakoot district.
An FIR was registered on August 31 at the Kotwali Karvi police station in Chitrakoot district against Ansari and co-accused Navneet Sachan, Niyaz Ansari, Faraz Khan, and Shahbaz Alam Khan. The allegations include extortion, assault, and creating a climate of fear in the area.
The case cites a gang chart prepared on August 28 and approved by the Chitrakoot District Magistrate on August 29, which identifies Abbas Ansari as the gang leader, with the other accused as members involved in various crimes.
Justice Samit Gopal, presiding over the bail hearing on Wednesday, rejected Ansari’s application, citing ongoing investigations and his incarceration since September 6, 2024. “No ground for interference is made out,” the judge remarked, while granting the state government additional time to proceed with the matter.
