Delhi High Court Allows Optional Virtual Appearance from Feb 16–23 Due to AI Summit, BCD Elections

The Delhi High Court has permitted lawyers and litigants to appear through virtual mode between February 16 and February 23, 2026, in view of the upcoming AI Impact Summit and the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) elections.

According to a circular issued by the High Court administration on February 14, the decision has been taken with the approval of the Chief Justice considering logistical constraints around the court premises during the two events.

The AI Impact Summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam from February 16 to 20, a venue located close to the High Court. This will be followed by the BCD elections from February 21 to 23, which will be conducted within the High Court complex.

“In view of the ‘AI Impact Summit’ … and the elections of Bar Council of Delhi … the Members of the Bar/Parties-in-Person may appear in their matters … through video conference,” the circular stated.

The High Court clarified that the facility of virtual appearance is optional and that the court will continue to function in hybrid mode during this period. Lawyers and litigants who wish to appear physically may still do so.

The AI Impact Summit is expected to draw global policymakers, technology leaders and industry stakeholders at a time when countries are actively shaping regulatory and governance frameworks for artificial intelligence. The proximity of the venue to the High Court is likely to lead to heightened security and traffic restrictions in the area.

The temporary relaxation allowing virtual appearances is aimed at ensuring smooth court functioning and minimising inconvenience to members of the Bar and litigants during the two events.
