The Delhi High Court on Monday agreed to urgently hear a public interest litigation concerning the fatal collapse of a building in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan that left six people dead and several others injured.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia granted the matter an urgent listing for hearing during the day after an advocate mentioned the petition before the court.
Appearing before the bench, the lawyer stated that two buildings had suddenly collapsed in the area on Sunday. The counsel further submitted that approximately 30 students were feared trapped beneath the rubble.
The structure, situated near Delhi University’s South Campus, operated as a boys’ paying guest accommodation. The collapse occurred on Sunday while repair work was being carried out on the premises.
