The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to grant an urgent hearing to a plea challenging the conduct of a re-examination for 2,445 candidates of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate 2026, directing the petitioner to mention the case before the designated bench overseeing all NEET matters.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana told the appearing counsel to take the matter before the bench headed by Justice P.S. Narasimha. In declining to entertain the mention, the bench noted that the designated bench is already seized of all NEET-related proceedings, where several developments regularly take place.
Challenge Cites Breach of Previous Order
The matter was mentioned for an urgent listing by an advocate who submitted that holding a re-examination violates an earlier directive issued by the apex court.
The plea stems from a decision by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences to hold a fresh examination for 2,445 candidates who were unable to complete the test due to technical disruptions.
Technical Faults Prompt Re-Test
The nationwide NEET-PG 2026 was conducted on August 30. According to official notification figures, a total of 2,65,980 candidates appeared for the entrance examination across the country.
While the test concluded successfully for 2,63,535 candidates, technical disruptions impeded the remaining 2,445 aspirants, leading the examining authority to schedule a re-examination for the affected group.
