The Jharkhand High Court has designated 10 local lawyers as Senior Advocates. The decision was finalized during a full meeting of the High Court judges, led by the Chief Justice, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
These designations—often referred to as “wearing the senior gown”—take effect immediately. Under Indian law, the title of Senior Advocate is a prestigious honor given to lawyers with outstanding ability, long experience, and a strong standing in the legal community.
Diverse Group of Lawyers Recognized
The new group of senior advocates represents a mix of highly experienced veterans and active modern litigators.
Notably, the list features two women lawyers:
- Indrani Sen Choudhary, who has nearly five decades of courtroom experience, making her the longest-serving lawyer in this new group.
- Darshana Poddar Mishra, who has over two decades of active practice and is well-known for representing both government and private clients.
The list also includes Prashant Pallav, who has represented the Central Government in several major cases as the Deputy Solicitor General for the Jharkhand High Court.

A Modern Selection Process
These appointments were made under the high court’s updated 2025 guidelines. These rules are designed to make the selection process more transparent and fair.
To be selected, candidates are evaluated on a point system that looks at:
- How many years they have actively practiced law.
- The quality of their court arguments and cases.
- Their legal research, articles, and academic work.
- Any free legal aid (pro-bono work) they have provided to the public.
