CJI Surya Kant Reconstitutes Supreme Court’s Artificial Intelligence Committee

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has reconstituted the Supreme Court’s Artificial Intelligence Committee to steer the judiciary’s efforts in adopting and expanding the use of AI-based tools in court functioning.

According to an official statement, the committee will now be chaired by Justice P. S. Narasimha. Its members include Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Kerala High Court’s Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V, Punjab and Haryana High Court’s Justice Anoop Chitkara, and Karnataka High Court’s Justice Suraj Govindaraj.

The Supreme Court said the revamped body will continue to guide and supervise all initiatives related to the adoption, development, and deployment of artificial intelligence tools and systems across the Supreme Court and the subordinate judiciary. The objective is to improve the efficiency, accessibility, and transparency of the justice delivery system.

Registrar (Technology) Anupam Patra will serve as the committee’s Member-Secretary and convener. Ashish J. Shiradhonkar, Member (Systems) of the Supreme Court’s e-Committee, has been designated as a special invitee.
