A Delhi court on Thursday postponed its decision on whether charges will be framed in the alleged land-for-job scam involving Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his family members and over a hundred accused individuals.
Special CBI Judge Vishal Gogne directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to submit a status report after confirming the status of each accused, noting that four of the 103 accused have died. The court listed the matter for further proceedings on December 8.
The CBI has filed chargesheets naming Lalu Yadav, his wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi, and their son and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, among others.
According to the prosecution’s case, appointments to Group-D posts in the West Central Zone of Indian Railways, headquartered in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, were allegedly granted between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Yadav served as railway minister. The agency claims the jobs were provided in exchange for land parcels gifted or transferred to members of the Yadav family or their associates.
The CBI further alleges that these appointments bypassed established norms and involved benami transactions amounting to conspiracy and criminal misconduct.
All accused have rejected the allegations and maintained that the case is politically motivated.
