Supreme Court Designates Seven Former High Court Judges as Senior Advocates

The Supreme Court of India has designated seven former High Court judges, including a former Chief Justice, as Senior Advocates. The decision was taken in a Full Court Meeting of the Chief Justice of India and the judges of the Supreme Court held on September 17, 2025.

Judges Conferred Senior Advocate Status

According to the notification issued on September 18, the following names have been approved for designation as Senior Advocates with effect from September 17, 2025:

  1. Justice Attau Rahman Masoodi, Former Judge, Allahabad High Court
  2. Justice Avinash Gharote, Former Judge, Bombay High Court
  3. Justice D. Krishna Kumar, Former Chief Justice, Manipur High Court
  4. Justice G. Ilangovan, Former Judge, Madras High Court
  5. Justice Jitendra Kumar Chauhan, Former Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court
  6. Justice R. Subramanian, Former Judge, Madras High Court
  7. Justice Virendra Gyansingh Bisht, Former Judge, Bombay High Court
