In a development highlighting growing concerns over delays in judicial appointments, advocate Shwetasree Majumdar has withdrawn her consent for elevation as a judge of the Delhi High Court, nearly a year after her name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium but remained pending with the Union government without explanation.
Majumdar, a prominent intellectual property law expert and Managing Partner of Fidus Law Chambers, was recommended for elevation by the Supreme Court Collegium on August 21, 2024. Her name was forwarded along with two other senior advocates — Ajay Digpaul and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar.
While the Centre cleared the appointments of Digpaul and Shankar on January 6, 2025, Majumdar’s name remained in limbo with no official reasons provided for the delay — a move that has drawn criticism from sections of the legal fraternity concerned about transparency and fairness in the judicial appointment process.

Majumdar is a graduate of the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, and has represented clients in over 500 matters before the Supreme Court and various High Courts. She has previously served as amicus curiae in several cases before the Delhi High Court and was also a member of the committee that framed the Delhi High Court (Original Side) Rules, 2018.
