Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 24-year-old law student inside a guard room at a law college campus in south Kolkata. The incident reportedly took place on the evening of June 25, and the arrests followed a written complaint lodged the next day.
According to Kolkata Police, the woman had visited the law college around 4 pm on June 25 for official work. She was allegedly asked to stay back, after which she was forcibly taken into a guard room on the ground floor of the college building. The assault reportedly occurred between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm.
Following the incident, the woman informed her parents, who approached the police. A formal complaint was registered at Kasba police station on June 26. Later that evening, two of the accused were arrested near a local park, while the third was apprehended from his residence around midnight.

All three accused were presented before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Alipore, which remanded them to police custody till July 1.
One of the accused, who was reportedly associated with a political student organization in the past, was represented in court by a lawyer who denied the allegations and claimed political bias. Meanwhile, the political outfit publicly disassociated itself from the accused and demanded strict action.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the case and sought a detailed report from the Kolkata Police Commissioner within three days.
