Delhi High Court Grants Two-Week Interim Bail to Woman Convict in POCSO Case on Grounds of Father’s Death

The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail for a period of two weeks to a woman convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, citing compassionate grounds following the death of her father.

A vacation bench of Justice Pratibha M. Singh passed the order on June 18 while hearing the plea of the convict, a former hospital security guard who is currently serving a 25-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for aggravated penetrative sexual assault, abetment, and failure to report the offence.

The court noted that the death of the convict’s father had been verified. “Considering the nature of the matter and the fact that the date of the death of appellant’s (convict’s) father has been verified, the appellant be released on interim bail for a period of two weeks from the date of release,” the order stated.

The interim bail is conditional upon the furnishing of a personal bond of ₹10,000 along with a surety of the same amount to the satisfaction of the jail superintendent. Additional restrictions include the convict residing only at her village home, reporting daily at the local police station, keeping her mobile phone active at all times, and ensuring her surrender at the end of the bail period.
