The Delhi High Court on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Naresh Kumar, a dismissed Delhi Police officer accused of masterminding a narcotics syndicate operating across multiple states.
Justice Pratibha M. Singh, presiding over the vacation bench, dismissed Kumar’s plea and directed the Delhi Police to submit a detailed status report by July 8.
Kumar, formerly posted as a sub-inspector in the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Cell of the Crime Branch, has been absconding for nearly 18 months. His dismissal from service was formally recorded on March 20 this year.
According to investigative authorities, Kumar allegedly operated a well-organized drug network, sourcing marijuana from Odisha and the northeastern states. The contraband was reportedly stockpiled in two properties located within Delhi before being distributed to buyers.
The case surfaced during an investigation into a drug-related arrest, when one of the apprehended individuals reportedly disclosed Kumar’s central role in the operation.
