The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday took stock of the progress in the long-delayed land survey across the state and was informed by the government that three official teams have been dispatched to study advanced surveying technologies in other parts of the country.
A division bench led by Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao was hearing a petition filed by one Gokul Chand, raising concerns over the delay in completing land surveys, which were originally initiated in 1975 during the erstwhile undivided Bihar.
During the hearing, the state government submitted that it had recently sent three teams from the Land and Revenue Department to Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka to examine the latest technological practices used in land surveys. Notably, the team that visited Andhra Pradesh also attended a dedicated conference to gain insights into updated surveying methodologies.
The state assured the court that it would implement the techniques and best practices observed in these states to expedite the land survey process within Jharkhand. The bench directed the government to ensure the completion of the survey at a faster pace and emphasised that modern technology should be adopted without delay.
The government had previously informed the court that while land surveys have been completed in Latehar and Lohardaga districts, the process is ongoing in other parts of the state and is expected to conclude soon.
The matter is now scheduled for further hearing on September 16.
