In a chilling case that has shocked the nation, Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has been remanded to eight days of police custody. Alongside her, four accomplices have also been sent to eight-day police custody by the District and Sessions Court in Shillong.
The East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, confirmed to PTI, “Police had sought a 10-day remand of all the accused. The court granted 8 days of police custody.”
Sonam was arrested from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and was brought to Shillong late Tuesday night. The remaining accused, who were arrested from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, reached Shillong on Wednesday under a transit remand arrangement.

A senior officer stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is handling the probe, sought custody of the accused for the purpose of reconstructing the crime scene in Sohra (Cherrapunji), the location where the murder allegedly took place.
According to officials, the SIT has been granted a six-day remand for those apprehended in Indore and a three-day remand for the accused brought in from Ghazipur.
The case surfaced when Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife reportedly went missing on May 23 while vacationing in Sohra. After days of search efforts, Raja’s body was discovered at the bottom of a gorge on June 2, prompting the launch of a murder investigation.
The police are now focused on reconstructing the chain of events that led to the alleged killing, as the investigation unfolds with the accused in custody.
