The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the response of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on the bail plea filed by Baramulla Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid in connection with a terror funding case.
A division bench comprising Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar issued notice on Engineer Rashid’s appeal, challenging a trial court’s March 21 order that denied him bail.
The court also directed the NIA to file a response on a separate petition filed by Rashid, which contests the framing of charges in the case. The bench specifically clarified that the agency’s reply should be limited to addressing the issue of a delay of approximately 1,100 days in filing the challenge against the charges.
Both matters have been scheduled for further hearing on July 29.
Engineer Rashid has been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2019 following his arrest by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with a 2017 terror funding case.
