Jharkhand Launches India’s First Health Insurance Scheme for Advocates

In a landmark move, the Jharkhand government on Saturday launched a dedicated health insurance scheme for advocates and their dependents, marking the first such initiative in the country. The scheme has been rolled out under the existing Rajyakarmi Swasthya Beema Yojana, extending its benefits specifically to the legal fraternity.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the scheme at a state-level event held at Harivansh Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium in Khelgaon, Ranchi. Describing the launch as “historic,” Soren said, “This scheme is a step towards ensuring dignity and security for our respected legal professionals. The government has taken it upon itself to shoulder the healthcare responsibilities of this vital segment of society.”

The Chief Minister underscored that the initiative reflects the state’s broader commitment to reducing the financial burden of healthcare expenses on various sections of society, especially professionals engaged in public service.

Plans for Law University Announced

On the occasion, Chief Minister Soren also announced that the state government is working on a comprehensive blueprint to establish a premier law university in Jharkhand. “Very soon, we will lay the foundation for a world-class law university in Jharkhand,” he said, adding that the institution will act as a centre of academic excellence and contribute to the strengthening of the state’s legal infrastructure.

Focus on Inclusive Development

Reiterating his administration’s vision for inclusive development, Soren said, “Our government is working towards the welfare of all—rural or urban, rich or poor, youth or elderly. We recognise the developmental challenges Jharkhand faces and are determined to address them through sustainable and inclusive policy measures.”

He also urged advocates and their families to make use of the Guruji Credit Card Yojana, which provides collateral-free education loans of up to ₹15 lakh for students pursuing higher studies. “We want to ensure that no student in Jharkhand is deprived of quality education due to financial limitations,” he said.
