Jharkhand Government to Notify New Jail Manual Within 30 Days, Informs High Court

In a recent hearing, the Jharkhand government committed to the High Court that a new jail manual will be notified within the next 30 days. This announcement came in response to earlier directives from the Supreme Court aiming to standardize and improve jail conditions across states.

The Advocate General of Jharkhand, Rajiv Ranjan, assured the court that the impending jail manual is in its final stages of approval and is expected to be cleared by the cabinet shortly. The government will then proceed with the official notification.

The High Court had previously requested details from the state government concerning the updated manual, which is part of a broader initiative following a Supreme Court order dated January 17. The apex court’s order called for all states to make necessary amendments to their respective jail manuals to enhance the management and welfare of inmates.
