Supreme Court to Observe Two-Minute Silence Today in Memory of Pahalgam Terror Attack Victims

The Supreme Court of India and its Registry will observe a two-minute silence today at 2:00 PM to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the recent act of terrorism in Pahalgam, located in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

As per a circular issued by the Administrative Security Branch, the silence will be observed across the Court and Registry premises as a mark of respect and tribute to the deceased.

The circular outlines the following protocol to be followed:

  1. Silence will be observed at exactly 2:00 PM on April 23, 2025, and will last for two minutes.
  2. To signal the commencement of the observance, a siren will be sounded from 1:59 PM to 2:00 PM.
  3. At the appointed time, Hon’ble Judges, lawyers, Registry staff, and all other individuals present in the Supreme Court premises will stand and observe two minutes of silence.
  4. After the observance, an “all clear” siren will be sounded from 2:02 PM to 2:03 PM to mark the conclusion.

This tribute comes in the wake of a devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed numerous lives and has deeply impacted the nation. The observance by the apex court serves as a solemn gesture of national mourning and solidarity.

The circular is issued under the authority of the Additional Registrar (AS) of the Supreme Court.
