New Delhi, February 22, 2025 – The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has unanimously passed a resolution condemning the proposed Advocate (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The resolution was adopted in an emergent meeting of the Executive Committee on February 22, 2025, reaffirming its opposition to the amendments.
The association had earlier, on February 17, 2025, strongly criticized the proposed amendments, terming them prejudicial to the entire legal fraternity. Despite continued protests by bar associations across India, the authorities have not responded positively to the demands for withdrawal of the amendments, the resolution stated.
In a show of solidarity with lawyers nationwide, the DHCBA has urged its members and other legal professionals to abstain from work and refrain from appearing before the High Court—both physically and virtually—on Monday, February 24, 2025.

“The Executive Committee, having been apprised of widespread protests across the country and strong reservations expressed by various High Court Bars, stands in solidarity with all our colleagues,” the resolution read.
The resolution was signed by DHCBA President Mohit Mathur, along with other senior members of the association. With legal professionals gearing up for a day-long strike, it remains to be seen how the government will address the growing opposition to the proposed amendments.
