In a rather unusual marital discord, a couple in Agra found themselves at the brink of divorce over disagreements about ordering food online. The husband, who works in a private job with a modest salary, expressed his inability to afford daily online food orders which had become a habit for his wife after he initially ordered food for her one day.
According to the husband, the situation escalated when his wife started insisting on ordering food daily, leading to arguments and physical confrontations. The husband stated, “I tried to explain that daily consumption of restaurant food could deteriorate our health, but disagreements over the issue have made our living situation unbearable.” Overwhelmed by the ongoing strife and financial strain, he sought a divorce.
The issue came to a head when the wife, displeased by her husband’s refusal, reportedly ceased cooking at home altogether, exacerbating the conflict. Following a physical altercation, the wife moved back to her parents’ house on December 2nd of the previous year and filed a complaint against her husband.
During the counseling sessions facilitated by the family counseling center, the wife contested the allegations, claiming that the husband had voluntarily ordered the food initially and that her requests were occasional, prompted by health issues on specific days. Counselor Dr. Satish Khirwar, who mediated the sessions, advised the couple on finding a balance. “We suggested that the wife could resume cooking regularly, and the husband could indulge in ordering food occasionally as a compromise,” Dr. Khirwar explained.
After several counseling sessions, the couple agreed to a settlement and decided to resume their life together, marking a reconciliation fostered by mediation rather than pursuing divorce. This case highlights the challenges modern couples may face where lifestyle choices intersect with financial limitations, underscoring the importance of communication and compromise in marriage.
