Justice Arindam Sinha Named Acting Chief Justice of Orissa High Court

With the impending retirement of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19, 2025, the Orissa High Court is set to welcome Justice Arindam Sinha as its new Acting Chief Justice starting January 20, 2025. This transition marks a significant shift in leadership for the High Court, which has been functioning below its full judicial capacity.

Born on September 22, 1965, Justice Sinha’s legal career began when he enrolled as an advocate on March 11, 1991. His extensive practice, which spanned over two decades primarily at the Calcutta High Court, covered areas such as Civil, Commercial, Arbitration, and Constitutional law, with a deep specialization in Civil law. His judicial acumen was recognized with his elevation to the Calcutta High Court as an Additional Judge on October 30, 2013, and his subsequent appointment as a permanent Judge on March 14, 2016.

His appointment comes at a crucial time, as the Orissa High Court’s current complement of 18 judges is significantly less than its authorized strength of 33, a gap that has persisted since September 2023. Justice Sinha’s leadership will be pivotal in addressing the challenges posed by the understaffing and steering the court towards a full roster.
