In a significant development, the court has amended the bail conditions for popular actor Allu Arjun, involved in the tragic stampede during the premiere of ‘Pushpa 2’, allowing him more freedom, including the ability to travel abroad. The court’s order, issued on January 10, relieves Arjun from the requirement to appear weekly before the investigating officer.
Previously, as part of his regular bail granted on January 3, Arjun was mandated to report every Sunday to the investigating officer at the Chikkadpally police station from 10 AM to 1 PM for two months or until the charge sheet was filed, whichever came first. The new ruling exempts him from these weekly check-ins but stipulates that he must inform the Station House Officer (SHO) of his international travel plans, detailing his itinerary and accommodation abroad until the charge sheet is submitted.
The relaxation followed a petition by Arjun seeking leniency in his bail conditions, which also previously included a prohibition on leaving the country without the court’s permission. While the court has eased these conditions, it maintained that Arjun must continue to cooperate fully with the police investigation and avoid any actions that might influence witnesses or interfere with the ongoing proceedings.
Arjun was initially arrested on December 13 after a fatal stampede at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on December 4, which resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and injuries to her eight-year-old son. The crowd had surged to catch a glimpse of the actor during the film’s premiere. He was subsequently released on interim bail by the Telangana High Court on December 14, which lasted until January 10.
