In a shocking incident in Maharashtra’s Thane district, a 22-year-old murder accused, Kiran Santosh Bharam, threw a slipper at a judge during a court session. The event occurred at the Kalyan sessions court on Saturday afternoon. According to officials, the slipper did not hit the judge but instead struck a wooden frame in front of his desk, landing near the bench clerk.
The incident unfolded during a routine hearing presided over by the District and Additional Sessions Judge. Bharam, evidently frustrated, requested the transfer of his case to another court. When his lawyer failed to appear to file the necessary application, the judge instructed Bharam to appoint another representative and then rescheduled the hearing.
It was at this point that Bharam, in a surprising outburst, bent down, removed his slipper, and hurled it towards the judge, causing dismay among those present in the courtroom.
The Mahatma Fule police station officials responded by registering a First Information Report (FIR) against Bharam under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 132, for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty, and 125, for acts endangering life or personal safety of others.
