BJP MLAs Petition Delhi High Court to Table CAG Reports Before Assembly

In a recent move, seven BJP MLAs have once again approached the Delhi High Court, pressing for the tabling of 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports concerning the city’s administration before the legislative assembly. The matter was brought before a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela.

This second petition by the legislators follows unresolved issues from a prior plea regarding the same CAG reports. The senior counsel representing the petitioners articulated the urgency of the matter, stressing that the upcoming elections might prevent the assembly session from being called, thereby delaying the discussion of these critical reports.

In response to the court’s inquiry about the urgency, the petitioners’ lawyer emphasized the significance of having these reports reviewed before any potential adjournment of assembly sessions due to elections. The court then directed that the case be listed for a hearing in the normal course.

Opposition leader Vijender Gupta and BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Bajpai, and Jitendra Mahajan have been persistent in their efforts to ensure these CAG reports are placed before the assembly for scrutiny. The latest plea, filed through lawyers Neeraj and Satya Ranjan Swain, claims that despite previous court orders, the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly has not yet received the reports necessary for further action.

The petition highlights a communication on December 20, 2024, in which the Speaker informed that he had not received the CAG reports as of 12:51 PM, marking a clear violation of earlier commitments made by the senior counsel for the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
