The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued an order to the Bhopal police commissioner, demanding the preservation of CCTV footage and the submission of an affidavit regarding the alleged illegal detention of Rajaram, a resident of Bikaner, Rajasthan. This directive was handed down by Justice Vivek Agrawal on Thursday, highlighting concerns over the conduct of certain officers within the Bhopal Crime Branch.
The incident, as detailed in a petition by Rajaram, involved his wrongful custody from December 4 to 8, 2024, by the Crime Branch unit at MP Nagar, Bhopal. During his detention, Rajaram claims he was coerced by four police officers—identified in court documents as Dileep Boxer, Juber Pathan, Prateek, and Jeetu—who allegedly demanded Rs 18,00,000 and threatened to harm his family and fabricate criminal charges against him.
In response to these serious allegations, the High Court’s order specifically requires the Crime Branch to secure the CCTV footage from the period of the alleged detention and submit it to the court on a pen drive. This is part of an interim measure to ensure that evidence is preserved while the court delves deeper into the claims made in Rajaram’s petition.
