In a dramatic session today, the Supreme Court sternly dismissed a plea seeking an inquiry against former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, while warning the petitioner, Arun Ramchandra Hublikar, with security intervention due to his conduct in the courtroom. The Bench, comprising Justices Bela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma, was compelled to order security to escort Hublikar out following his persistent and heated objections.
Hublikar’s plea alleged that Justice Gogoi had interfered in a judicial decision that affected him personally, leading to his wrongful termination. “Justice Gogoi unwarrantedly interfered in a judgment, making my life miserable by interfering in an order passed in my favour,” Hublikar claimed during the proceedings.
However, the Bench quickly dismissed these claims, with Justice Trivedi responding sharply to Hublikar’s insistence, “We are going to impose costs. Don’t take any name of the judge. There is nothing in your case.” As Hublikar continued to protest, asserting that he was facing injustice, the Bench reiterated its position and formally dismissed his petitions.
The situation escalated when Hublikar refused to accept the dismissal calmly, prompting Justice Trivedi to call for security. “Call security. Don’t compel us to take action against you. If you speak a single word, you are out,” she warned. Despite the intervention of Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, who attempted to explain the Court’s decision, Hublikar continued to argue his position until he was finally escorted out by security.
This is not the first instance of Hublikar attracting attention in the Supreme Court for his contentious appearances. Previously, Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud had questioned Hublikar’s approach when he filed a PIL that inappropriately named a judge as a respondent.
