Central Government Appoints Two New Judges to Patna High Court

In a recent move to address the judicial vacancies, the Central Government on Tuesday announced the appointment of two new judges to the Patna High Court. The appointed justices, Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh and Ashok Kumar Pandey, were elevated following the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium on September 24.

Justice Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh, who joined the Judicial Service in May 1996, has had a distinguished career serving in various capacities within the State judiciary. Prior to his elevation, he held the position of Registrar (Vigilance) at the Patna High Court, overseeing critical aspects of judicial administration and integrity.

Justice Ashok Kumar Pandey, with a service commencement in December 1995, has also contributed significantly to the judiciary in Bihar. His most recent role was as the Director of the Bihar Judicial Academy in Patna, where he was involved in training and shaping the future of judicial officers in the state.

The appointments come at a crucial time as the Patna High Court has been grappling with a substantial number of vacancies, with 20 unfilled positions against a sanctioned strength of 53 judges. These appointments are expected to help reduce the backlog of cases and enhance the efficiency of the judiciary in Bihar.
