The Allahabad High Court has called for the DNA report of a foetus following the abortion of a minor rape survivor in the Ayodhya case. The directive came during the bail hearing of Moeed, a 71-year-old bakery owner accused of the crime. Justice Pankaj Bhatia of the Lucknow bench has ordered the Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory to provide the DNA results within a week.
Moeed, who was arrested on July 30 along with an employee, has pleaded for bail, claiming that his implication in the case was politically motivated. He has also complained about not receiving any documents pertaining to the allegations against him. The victim, a minor, had become pregnant as a result of the rape and subsequently underwent an abortion, with the foetal tissue sent for DNA analysis to ascertain paternity.
The Additional Advocate General VK Shahi, representing the state government, argued against the bail petition, emphasizing the serious nature of the allegations and the vulnerability of the victim. The next session for this case is scheduled for September 30, where the DNA report is expected to play a crucial role in the proceedings.
